Editorial standards

How we research, review and maintain UK business funding information.

Our mission

FundingAtlas helps UK businesses discover and understand the funding opportunities available to them — grants, tax incentives, loans, guarantees, equity schemes and wider business support — and make informed decisions about which routes to pursue.

How we research funding

Every programme on FundingAtlas is researched against identifiable, official sources. In practice, that means:

  • Official provider websites operated by the funder or a named delivery partner.
  • UK and devolved government sources (GOV.UK, gov.scot, gov.wales, nidirect and equivalents).
  • Public agency and arms-length body sources (UKRI, Innovate UK, British Business Bank, UKEF and others).
  • Published programme guidance and competition documents.
  • Public eligibility criteria as set out by the funder.

We do not list programmes that we cannot trace to a public, official source. We do not list intermediary or referral-network "products" unless we can verify the underlying public funding behind them.

How FundingAtlas reviews programmes

Once a programme is sourced, it is structured by an editor against the same review steps for every entry:

  • Eligibility review — who the scheme is and is not for, based on the funder's published criteria.
  • Funding review — instrument type, amount range and any match-funding requirements, taken directly from the source.
  • Programme categorisation — funding type, business stage, industry, objective and region, applied against stable taxonomies.
  • Pathway assignment — where a programme sits in a wider funding journey (for example, what typically comes before or after it).
  • Comparison creation — for programmes that overlap with other routes, a side-by-side comparison is produced so users can choose between them.

How often content is reviewed

  • Periodic reviews. Cornerstone grants, comparisons and decision guides are re-read on a rolling cadence and carry a visible "last reviewed" date.
  • Updates when schemes change. When a funder updates eligibility, funding amounts, deadlines or assessment criteria, the corresponding entry is revised.
  • Removal of closed opportunities. Programmes that are closed, paused or replaced are unpublished rather than left in the catalogue — we would rather show fewer programmes than misleading ones.

Accuracy policy

FundingAtlas is an information platform, not an application portal. We make no guarantee that any user will receive funding, that a programme is currently open, or that the eligibility criteria described will apply to a specific business. Funder rules change, and assessment is at the funder's discretion.

  • Users should always verify the current programme rules against the official source before applying.
  • We provide an official source link on every programme page where the funder publishes one.
  • We do not invent funding amounts, eligibility criteria, timelines, success rates or assessment periods. Where information is not published by the funder, we say so rather than estimate.

Corrections policy

If you find an inaccuracy, a closed programme that is still listed, an out-of-date funding amount or a broken source link, please tell us. Reports are triaged within two working days and corrections are published as soon as the funder's current position is verified.

Independence

FundingAtlas is an independent information platform. We are not part of any government department or funder. We accept no paid placements, sponsored listings or featured-provider fees. Providers cannot pay to influence ranking, inclusion or how a programme is described.
